GOOD NEWS (This isn't so much news, as just something positive... but just go with it!): Instead of fundraising through the official Oklahoma City Memorial Half Marathon fundraising page, Rachel and I have decided to take a different approach and raise money for TEXAS classrooms in need. If you choose to donate, you can choose a particular project from Texas, or donate an amount to go to the classrooms in most dire need. Definitely a really cool idea... check out the site: Donorschoose.org
Here's the link to our specific fundraising page:

As an educator myself, I know that donations made to any of the classrooms in need are appreciated more than you could ever know... especially because of the bad news you see below...
BAD TERRIBLE NEWS: Texas Education is majorly in crisis right now. School Districts' budget deficits are out of control, and as a result, jobs and programs are being cut left and right all over the state. Unfortunately for me and my colleagues, Plano is one of the many unfortunate districts facing major layoffs this year. We've received word that many jobs throughout the district will be cut this year... and we're supposed to know by April 5th specifically who will be cut. Check out this article from this morning's Dallas Morning News:

It's
really scary... everyone is on edge. :-/
FIrst of all, I love the fundraising approach that you two chose. Smart!
ReplyDeleteSecondly, ugh- just ugh! That makes me so sick for you! As if those jobs really need to be cut!
I hope our town isn't next since I am trying to get a job for next year.
I wish you the best of luck and hope your not affected! Each year I have been with my school I was in that position and it really stinks not knowing, but hopefully they will realize your position is important.
